Walnut Street Property Finally for Sale

The three-year saga of the property at 203 Walnut Street in Eddyville is nearing the end as bids are due for purchase of the property. The decision to sell and setting dates for closing came after a closed session at the Dec. 3 council meeting.

Councilors Brent Jackson and Travis Strunk moved to enter into closed session in accordance with Iowa Code Section 21.5 1.c. (“To discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.”) for the purpose of discussing the 203 Walnut Street Project.

After the session, councilor Wade Francis moved to approve Jan. 3, 2019 at noon for bids on the property to be due to the city clerk. Councilors further approved Jan. 17 as the date for the closing and balance paid on the property. Councilors continued its discussion regarding the city web site and social media. City clerk Katie Smith brought the idea to the city in a previous meeting. She has used her personal Facebook account for city business, but said it would be better for the city to have its own account.
