Warhawks Battle Rain, Plainsmen

Rain, wind and cold greeted the golfers of North Mahaska and Belle Plaine Thursday at Prairie Knolls Golf Course in New Sharon. North Mahaska was hosting South Iowa Cedar League foe Belle Plaine in a duel that turned into more of a case of survival.

Temperatures dipped into the 40s and a cold wind and rain pelted the golfers through two-thirds of the contest. Even in the conditions North Mahaska’s Kassidi Steel posted a 2-over par 39, the best score for either team. North Mahaska girls won the dual since Belle Plaine had just one female golfer.

North Mahaska seniors Blake Fisher and Hunter Davis led the Warhawks to the win by three strokes. Fisher and Davis each shot a 41 for the top two spots. Fisher won a card playoff for medalist honors.
