Lady Savages score often in win over Keota

For only the second time this season, the Sigourney softball team hosted an opponent. This time it was the Lady Eagles who came to play on June 4. Sigourney used some early runs to establish their lead and extended it as the game wore on, ending up with a 13-2 win.

Sigourney deployed Jordan VanEe to start on the mound, working through a one-two-three inning with three strikeouts, needing just 12 pitches. She would get some help from her offense in the bottom half, plating a pair of runs.

The theme of the game was all about getting multiple girls more field time as coach Shelly Streigle opted to bring in Madelynn Hornback to replace Jordan on the mound. She worked through a clean second and the offense stepped up again with another four runs scoring. Sigourney used their baseball IQ once on base, trying to either steal and advance or distract the opposing defense. By using that tactic, the Lady Savages would score twice from third without a play.

Hornback got into a couple jams the following inning, with Keota getting some runners aboard and working their war around the bags to score twice. Sigourney kept mixing up their defensive alignment but limited the damage. More new faces got a chance to bat and play the field in the third and fourth innings, where Sigourney did most of their damage.
