Klinker scores big TD, but Warhawks fall, 40-6

CORYDON – Wind and cold greeted the North Mahaska Warhawks Friday following a two-hour bus ride when they made the long trip to Corydon for Class A football. Dylan Klinker warmed the Warhawk faithful with a first-quarter touchdown, but the excitement was short-lived as the host Falcons rolled to a 40-6 victory.

It took just two plays for Wayne to take the lead when quarterback Bret Whitehall hit Dayton Jacobson on a 54-yard aerial and then, following a stop of NM, scored on an 8-yard run to take a 14-0 lead at the 5-minute mark. The teams exchanged possessions, and as the first quarter closed, NM had the ball deep in its own territory.

Coming from the 15-yard line, the Warhawks moved to their own 25 and faced a fourth down and five yards when the ball was fumbled at the 20-yard line. Klinker picked up the loose ball and outran the Falcons, placing a six spot on the visitor’s side of the Paul Epperley Field scoreboard.
