Briggs battles at Inaugural Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament

More than 80 girls from around the state braved the wintry conditions and came together for Iowa’s Inaugural Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament on January 19. Of those who competed, Nevaeh Briggs made the list, representing the English-Valleys/Tri-County program.

Briggs (138 lbs.) was given a bye in the first round of the tournament and made it deep into her second match before getting pinned. She successfully got through the first period and was on the cusp of making it through two, but Makayla Mostek (Osage) managed to pin her in the final seconds.

From there, Briggs was awarded another bye and would have a chance to finish as high as fifth place in the bracket. She picked up a point in her next match against Carlie Frost (Waterloo, West) and went the distance, but was unable to get enough offense going in the 8-1 loss.
