Board Tabs Goemaat as New Principal

NEW SHARON – North Mahaska school board members made a number of personnel decisions Monday, but none was bigger than confirming school instructional coach Amber Goemaat as junior and senior high principal. Goemaat will replace retiring principal Doug Ray. Goemaat will officially begin her position on July 1.

Goemaat will begin her 15th year at the school having served as second grade teacher, fifth grade teacher, Title I reading teacher, 7-12 technology coach, junior high girls basketball coach, junior high softball coach, high school assistant volleyball coach and, most recently, the K-12 instructional coach.

Goemaat has outlined her plans for North Mahaska, according to the school’s web site.

1. Establish and nurture positive and productive relationships with members of the North Mahaska Junior/Senior High family to better understand the values, traditions and passions of the school community.

2. Establish a foundation for continuous school improvement by identifying strengths and opportunities to create or adjust systems that provide support for a thriving and successful learning environment.

3. Rally the North Mahaska Community toward achieving the district’s mission and school improvement goals.
