4th Ward Seat will appear on November Ballot

Another seat will appear on the Sigourney city election ballot in November. At the Sigourney 4th Sigourney City Council Meeting, the council unanimously voted to place the 4th ward city council seat on the ballot. This move comes in response to the resignation of 4th ward councilor and Mayor Pro-Tempore Rick Landgrebe.

The position, however, will only be for a two-year term to fill a vacancy. Landgrebe was most recently re-elected in 2017, running unopposed.

Residents who are interested in running for the 4th ward city council position must file a candidate affidavit and nomination petition with at least 10 signatures from eligible electors in the 4th ward. Nomination paperwork must be filed by Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. In addition to the 4th ward seat, one at-large seat, as well as the 1st ward, and 3rd ward seats will appear on the ballot for regular four-year terms. Signature requirements remain the same as the 4th ward: a minimum of 10 eligible electors. Incumbents Jimmy Morlan, Connie McLaughlin, and Ed Conrad have all indicated they plan to seek re-election.

In other Keokuk County communities, various City Council and Mayor positions will appear on the ballot in November. Information on signature requirements, as well as which positions will appear on the ballot, can be obtained from respective city clerks. All candidates must file their nomination petition paperwork by Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. That date is set by the Iowa Secretary of State, pursuant to the Code of Iowa, and is uniform across the state.
